Need Some Startup Money? …. Build an App for That

– Mobile App Contest Will Award Utah Startups $15K for Best Apps –

OGDEN, October 29, 2013 – With the coming opening of the Startup Ogden Mobile App lab, Ogden is setting its sights to be the center of mobile app development in Utah.  In conjunction with that, Grow Utah Ventures, Northfront Business Resource Center and Weber State University/StartUp Ogden announced a $15,000 Mobile App “Concept to Company” contest for all Utah entrepreneurs and developers with new mobile apps.

The contest is designed to help mobile app developers get their idea into the marketplace and grow their business. “Right now, it’s much easier but also much more challenging in some regards to launch a mobile app business,” said T. Craig Bott, President and CEO of Grow Utah Ventures. “Design and code writing are often the easy part, but the user experience, marketing strategy, promotion, and of course the initial funding is what is more difficult, “ he continued. “That’s where this contest comes in, to help those get further down the road in achieving their dreams.”

From among the entries, eight finalists will be selected to present their innovations to mobile app experts and the general audience on December 5th at the Startup Ogden Mobile Apps center. A grand prize winner will be awarded $7,500 in cash and two runner-up winners will each receive $3,750.  Cash prizes will be provided by Grow Utah Ventures, Zions Bank, and Northfront Business Resource Center. Free Mobile App Lab membership will be provided to the winners from StartUp Ogden.

“This contest goes hand-in-hand with our goal to work with more mobile developers in Ogden,” said Alex Lawrence, WSU Vice Provost for Innovation and Economic Development and Startup Ogden Director. “This initiative is part of accelerating the creation and successful launch of mobile businesses from a central location in downtown Ogden. This will help put northern Utah on the map as the place to launch a mobile application business in Utah,” he added.

“We’re supportive of this vision and feel that the Mobile App Concept to Company Contest is a great way to kick start it,” said Steve Cloward, Executive Director of the Northfront Business Resource Center located in Kaysville. “We are dedicating our money and resources to help entrepreneur in Northern Utah and are expecting some great app developers to apply to our contest and grow their business.”

The contest application deadline is November 17th.  To apply, or RSVP for the final judging event, visit www.ConceptToCompany.org
