Weber-Davis Area Churning Out Successful Startups

– Entrepreneur Excellence Banquet to Recognize Top Entrepreneurs from Northern Wasatch Front –

OGDEN, UT, Dec. 01, 2014 – When it comes to starting a business in Utah, many people think that there is Utah Valley and everything else. In fact, many people think that anything north of Salt Lake is pretty much in Idaho. Of course, there have been many successful startups created in the valley and it is an area rich in startup culture.  However, there are also many other places across the state catching the entrepreneur spirit and creating successful businesses. On Dec 10th, the NorthFront Entrepreneur Alliance (www.NorthFrontAlliance.org), will honor some of those from Weber and Davis Counties at its annual Entrepreneur Excellence Awards Banquet in Kaysville.

Now in its sixth year, the Entrepreneur Excellence Awards honors top performing startup businesses from the northern Wasatch Front. “A lot of people don’t realize how much is going on up here”, said Steve Cloward, Board Chairman.  “With the Startup Ogden Center, the NorthFront BRC, Startup Weekend events, entrepreneur incentives and more, we are churning out businesses here. In fact, many past award winners are companies we’ve all heard of such as Ragnar Races and Pluralsight.”

This year, awards will be given in three categories: Best Bootstrapped Startup, Rapid Growth Startup and Greatest Potential Startup. Although the winning companies will not be revealed until the event, here are a few clues about who they are:

  • Best Bootstrapped Startup: A Davis County therapeutic product company with skyrocketing sales (on track for multi-million dollar sales next year!), all built from the ground up with no outside funding.
  • Rapid Growth Startup: A booming outdoor gear company from Ogden that has grown 20x in three years going from 2 to 20 employees across three buildings. Their products are sold throughout the world in retail stores.
  • Greatest Potential Startup: A growing software startup with innovative solutions for the manufacturing industry. Now profitable, they are getting ready to launch their programs and along with a new (very) disruptive pricing model.

“This year’s winners will be another great group of entrepreneurs,” said T. Craig Bott, CEO of Grow Utah and Alliance board member. “Every year, I am amazed at the quality of startups in this area and how hard they work to get their business off the ground.  These awards will give them validation and encourage them to keep going.”

The awards event will take place at the NorthFront Business Resource Center in Kaysville next Wednesday, Dec 10th, from 11:30-1:30.  Due to generous sponsors, registration costs are $10 or less and include a banquet lunch. To register, visit www.NorthFrontBanquet2014.eventbrite.com
